jaw dropping perfection

In a post, whenever I say "my jaw dropped" my boyfriend likes to poke fun and asks if my jaw really truly dropped. I am happy to saw that in this case not only did my jaw dropped but I gasped. The home of Erin Fetherson is just perfection--I love every detail, ever color, every fabric, and the romantic (without being fussy) feel throughout.

eye candy {playful restraint}

It is always fascinating to see the homes of interior design professionals (like the one of Susan Hornbeak Ortiz, owner of Shine by S.H.O.) and see which colors, trends, textures, styles and textiles they choose as they are so immersed in the world on a daily basis. Susan shows great restraint in her home. It is not overdecorated and features unique textures and touches--from the cabinetry details, perfect peacock color palette, studding on furniture and whimsical lighting.

home crush {daring drama}

I love designers that aren't afraid to use vibrant color, unique treatments or bold patterns--which is exactly why Christina Murphy Interiors may be my new favorite firm. All of their work beautifully shows that here is no reason to be afraid of making a statement. This home in particular is excellent inspiration for anyone looking to add a bit drama or touch daring to their home...

featured home {well divided}

The use of paned glass walls, a neutral palette, mirrors, area rugs to define seating areas and low back seating are all excellent ways to create a home with defined spaces while maintaining the feeling of openness. These are all great solutions for loft style living when square footage is limited.

out in the open

I love going into homes where personal artifacts and accessories are openly displayed, especially when in a lovely manner. It evokes a confidence that I find incredibly appealing--that sense that one is not afraid to display their favorite books or their kitchen staples to guests. Oh, how I would love to meet the homeowners of this apartment and climb the ladder to leaf through those books...

By the way, pretty fabulous kitchen, no? So smart of the homeowners to encase it in glass and make what is a very small home much more open.

vintage + contemporary

I am always fascinated by the homes of interior designers--from the trends they embrace, the colors they use and the lines of furniture they choose. I love the classic federal feel of the home of journalist turned interior designer, Jeff Lincoln. He mixes art deco, vintage and ikea flawlessly!
The one budget idea that I am definitely going to use in my home is the thick gold branches in a vase--perhaps a good DIY for this weekend.

why it works {small + smart}

I am always on the look out for smartly designed small spaces. This tiny flat designed by the homeowner, Sarah Vanrenen, is just incredible. It works and feels so much larger than it is for so many reasons. For starters the hanging chair is a brilliant solution for this small bay window--it is functional and creates a much airier feel than a traditional chair would, it saves floor space and not to mention that you can see through it.

The all over bright white palette (the floors, walls and even the cabinetry) makes this flat instantly feel larger.

The white also allows all the bold punches of colors used the home to pop. This was smart, as is it keeps the eye moving around the room and guests noticing things other than the size.

Lastly, mirrors--always a great way to open up a room. She strategically placed a very large (and white) one directly over the dining area which adds a nice hint of architectural detail as well.

Besides being a well designed it is full of some many lovely details and just stunning. It also has left me lusting for a plum pom pom pillow!

home crush {worn + refined}

This home is so warm and welcoming. It looks as though it has been lovingly lived in forever. I love the weathered look of the fireplace mixed with the clean lines of the coffee table.

And although my feet are chilly just thinking about having a brick kitchen floor, it really is the perfect choice for this adorable farmhouse inspired kitchen.

However, my favorite room in this amazing dressing room---the high back of the sofa and the bamboo lamps and of course the feminine botanical print pillows!

the high life

Twenty vertical feet of windows is a pretty amazing feature on its own but add an amazingly patterned vaulted ceiling and you have the makings for one room that will keep your chin up.

home crush {mirrored contemporary}

This home may not make the cut for my all time favorites list but it is chalk full of inspiration, especially in terms of mirror use and artwork display. I am just crazy about the lovely way these symmetrical mirrors frame the door and act as an architectural element.

home crush {washed in lilac}

I just love the faded palette of this home. The soft touches of lilac perfectly warm up the cool grays and neutral tones creating elegant and serene spaces. Puts me in the mood for a mellow and relaxing weekend!

warm + cozy

I am beginning to feel that I talk about the weather a little too frequently here on delight by design, but what can I say-- it constantly changes my mood and longings. The fact that I am wearing a wool sweater and smell the neighbor's fireplace burning leaves me craving cozy and cabin-esque spaces. Nothing is more cozy that stone walls and wood accents. It is a style that can be over the top but this home is just perfect...
