seaside {subtly} chic
Summer is officially here and it is time for people to venture off to there seaside summer retreats. This also means that beach homes are popping in almost every shelter magazine I open. I used to love the classic blue, red and nautical touches in these seasonal homes but am now drawn to a more sophisticated look, one that subtly draws on the colors and textures of a beach setting--just like these...

bold + blue
I always gravitate towards turquoise-no matter what room or what I wear I try to incorporate it. It is bold, beautiful and bright...

current cravings {classic coastal}
Maybe it is because I will be headed to the beach (one in Italy!) soon but I am completely drawn to sand and sea inspired colors. If I am ever lucky enough to have a beach home you can be sure that these classic and jaw dropping pieces can be found in it...

eye candy {playful restraint}
It is always fascinating to see the homes of interior design professionals (like the one of Susan Hornbeak Ortiz, owner of Shine by S.H.O.) and see which colors, trends, textures, styles and textiles they choose as they are so immersed in the world on a daily basis. Susan shows great restraint in her home. It is not overdecorated and features unique textures and touches--from the cabinetry details, perfect peacock color palette, studding on furniture and whimsical lighting.

sand + sea
Perhaps it is the nautical inspired bathroom I posted on Friday but when I was pursuing the web this morning I found a common theme in all the items I was gravitating too--a sand and sea color scheme. Perhaps I am craving a beach vacation?! These colors will always be refreshing and classic.

loving {taupe + nautical blue}
Wow, how is it only Tuesday and I am already wiped out!? The fresh and clean look of nautical blue mixed with neutrals is definitely helping invigorate me.

falling in to color {denim}
Last fall I was crazy about jewel tones but this year I am being drawn towards moodier colors, the first of them being washed denim. It is a color that can work in small pops to add subtle color to a sophisticated room...

Be layered to create a cozy casual space...

Or add drama when as a high gloss paint paired with colorful accessories.

in love with indigo
If there was a color that was my kryptonite it would be blue--if you hadn't noticed. And this spring (which I am pretending is just around the corner!) I am just loving shades of indigo mixed with warmer tones.

divine combination {burnt sienna and navy}
Every single time that I think I have nailed down my favorite color combination another lovely one catches my eye and today it is warm sienna paired with rich navy blue.

color inspiration {robin egg blue}
I have been on quite the blue interior kick lately but I think that robin egg blue may beat out all the other shades. I am not quite sure why I haven't posted about this lovely color earlier but I was quickly reminded of it today with all the robins were enjoying the rain (and worms!) in my yard. The softest versions of the shade are perfect for a soothing primary color in a space and the bolder versions make for the perfect accent.

cheap(er) chic: nautical navy
I adore navy blue! Although it is a dark color the nautical connotations associated it with it cause lovely daydreams of sailing and watching the sunset over the ocean--making it the perfect color for summertime.

breezy [aqua] blues
To say that I got a little bit of sun over the weekend would be an understatement--scorched may be a better word. I got a little overzealous at the first sign of spring and completely forgot how strong the Wyoming sun can be! So, the only colors that I can wear at the moment that tones down my pink cheeks are cool and breezy aqua blues. Any of these pieces would do the trick:

color inspiration [inky blues]
I love versatile colors that can work in a wide array of settings. To me deep and rich inky blues fall into that category. They can exude everything from moody elegance to warm glamour. I especially love the drama these blues can add when contrasted with taupe and white.

Would you consider adding this lovely and daring color to your home?

cheap(er) chic: ocean blue
It is coming to that point in the winter when I am just longing to slip on a bathing suit and bask in the sun on a beach. I truly do love snow but waking up every morning to negative temperature is wearing a little old. So for now I will just dream about looking out over a beautiful blue ocean with the warm breeze against my skin though an ocean blue cheap(er) chic. The calypso dress in particular is just calling my name!

shoes from j.crew ($109), earrings from brooks brothers ($58), dress from calypso (%50 off), coin purse from longchamp ($42), scarf from the gap ($29.50)
