open living {frosted glass and golden wood}

Golden wood tones and softly frosted glass are the perfect touches in this loft. These elements keep the clean lines, metallic touches and ductwork from looking cold and sterile. Having the contrast between warm and cool is always something to keep top of mind when designing a space, and an industrial one in particular.

featured home {well divided}

The use of paned glass walls, a neutral palette, mirrors, area rugs to define seating areas and low back seating are all excellent ways to create a home with defined spaces while maintaining the feeling of openness. These are all great solutions for loft style living when square footage is limited.

eye candy {loft living}

Although lofts can be chic I have a hard time with the very open living plan. I am all for airy open spaces but do crave some sort of room division. However, every once and a while there are lofts that I long for and this is one of them. Perhaps it is the height and volume of the floral designs, flawless accessorizing, swoon worthy dining table or the differing wall colors...

small space inspiration {going vertical}

This Cape Town loft is only 59 square meters, which I can't convert to feet off the top of my head (at least not on a Friday) but none the less it is small! They really used the space well by adding a mezzanine level for the bedroom and a sitting area.

The use of open shelves and the ladders eliminates the space that closed cabinets and sraures would take up.

Lastly, the bathroom is quite brilliant as does not have a traditional shower or bath but rather just a showerhead coming from the ceiling and a floor and wall of tile to make the entire room waterproof.

comfortable luxury

I don't know about you but when I think about luxurious spaces I think of rooms where I can't touch or sit on anything, almost as is I am in a museum. It isn't that I wouldn't like a few luxurious touches in my home (a gilt consul or crystal sconce, perhaps) but I also want a space that I can feel comfortable relaxing in. I think this loft has achieved what I imagined to be unachievable--comfortable luxury.

Love the balance of the antiques with the inviting and casual seating. I could go on and on about all the details I love about this room (the screen and that sidetable!) but I won't. Best yet, did I mention this style is proving successful in a loft?

loft living

Home Design Ideas and Alternative
The first time I set foot in a loft was when I was living in Chicago and working in advertising--I was stopping by a co-workers place and was both amazed and baffled by the open space. I remember not quite knowing if I loved or hated them. However, I have to say that the high ceilings and abundant natural light have definitely won me over!Home Design Ideas and AlternativeHome Design Ideas and AlternativeHome Design Ideas and Alternative
