sunday sponsor {ella wrap}

Did you know that each year 38,000 miles of ribbon alone are thrown out in the U.S., which is enough to tie a bow around the Earth? One solution to this excessive ribbon use is found in the lovely reusable and sustainable gift packaging from Ella Wrap. They have a wide range of sizes and styles, ranging from the simple and elegant...

eco chic: mad imports

Given that it is Earth Day ( Happy Earth Day!) I thought it would be appropriate to post one of my favorite (and reasonably priced) eco-chic lines in celebration! The line is Mad Imports, a socially and environmentally responsible company selling handmade handbags from Madagascar and Kenya. Their colorful handbags are made using renewable raw materials. I am especially fond of their small handbags and clutches--the perfect summer accessory!

sustainable saturday [eco-ganik]

Home Design Ideas and Alternative
I am quite excited about an eco friendly and very feminine clothing line that I recently came across, eco-ganik. They have hit a unique chord by catering to both the the fashion forward as well as eco-conscious consumer. All of their pieces are made out of 100% organic cotton, made in the USA, use only the lowest impact dyes and are modestly priced.

Eco Bones

Home Design Ideas and Alternative
My two dogs tear through squeaky toys in about an hour so I had stopped buying them. However, on Friday I saw these eco bones and I just had to take them home--they were super soft, looked really durable, and of course I thought they were cute! I took a gamble and the eco bones have now lasted three days- truly historic for my dogs. Even cooler than their durability is that they are made out of recycled pop bottles! The company that makes them,West Paw Designs, is based in Bozeman, Montana and offers tons of eco chic dog beds and dog toys.

Journaling...

...is something I have been doing quite a bit of lately. However, I have been doing it Carrie Bradshaw style which makes for a very large word document that much to my dismay is not transportable. I tend to want to write and have the most "profound" thoughts at random times so I thought it would be worth investing in portable traditional version. I really love these handmade journals from Cake + Milk Paperie made from kraft moleskin. My favorite has seals on the front! The best part is that they are completely "green".

Recycling Day!

I just dropped off about a month of recycling and seeing how much I had accumulated in that time made me truly feel that I was doing something significant. This raised the question - what could all these wine bottles and La Croix cans become in the design world? I knew all about cork floors and recycled glass counters but I was curious to see what else was out there. The answer--a lot! These were some of the more unexpected and noteworthy items I found:

A clock made out of a bicycle sprocket and a computer hard drive from Natural Territory:Home Design Ideas and Alternative
Beautifully patterned lampshades made out of recycled card stock from Love Eco

One of the more expensive items I came across was this reclaimed cork chaise designed by Daniel Michalik:

My favorite items from the search are these beautiful tumblers that are made out of the bottom half of red wine bottles from Planet Trash:

Lastly, these Emeco chairs are designed by Phillipe Starke and made out of 80% recycled aluminum. They are also guaranteed to last 150 years--talk about sustainable!
