ah, fresh from j&r with a new monitor and ready to blog, it's a lovely feeling

portia wells, besides having a fabulous name, has designed a gorgeous collection of products. some conceptual, some practical, but all are gorgeous. her felt and ceramic pencil/pen holders are gorgeous, but my favorites are her lovely inkblot wallpaper designs and the slipcover project, which allows you to cover a plain chair with the silhouette of an eames chair, chippendale, shaker and even an everyday metal folding chair. portia's work is constantly examining "cultural identifiers" and the objects that we hold dear- her portraits: west coast piece examines the things we obtain as status symbols: mini coopers, ipods, hummer vehicles, etc.
