koo de kir

nesting bowl set

boston design store koo de kir was passed on to me by a wonderful d*s reader from massachusetts. thank you thank you for passing it on, as i seem to be the last person on earth to have heard of it.

home to an overwhelming amount of great little pieces for the home, koo de kir takes their name from the french phrase, "coup de coeur" meaning, "a strike to the heart". and well, koo de kir has struck this little heart.

koo's strengths lie in the depth of their collection- not merely a greatest hits of design, koo's selection carries obscure designs from international studios, as well as some better known pieces from people like thomas paul (is there a home store anywhere in the states that doesn't carry tp now?). my favorites are in the ceramics collection- namely the beautiful graduated floral nesting bowls- perfect for displaying all sorts of things, or nothing at all- it's beautiful enough to stand on its own.

koo de kir also carries some great, more traditional pieces, like the fabulous writing desk seen above. i'm trying to mix in some older pieces with our more modern pieces at home, so something like this is right up my alley. it's certainly out of my price range, but it gives me a starting point from which to find inspiration. (ebay, anyone? ebay?)

koo also carries two of my guilty pleasures- shaped graphite pencils and intaglio etchings (yay my major!). the acorn and twig graphite set is unbearable cute to me for some reason. they have a set at environment 337 that i always play with when i visit. on the other hand, the intaglio prints by beth weintraub are less guilty pleasure and more sheer admiration. i spent three years trying to master this craft and never really did. i love people who can make intaglio printing work. it's gorgeous.

koo de kir has so much to offer, so check out their online store or, if you're in the boston area, check out their beacon hill store. enjoy!
