american dollhouse
Do you like this story?

american dollhouse (an exhibition currently showing at the future perfect) "samples design archetypes through form, color and pattern, as remembered by the designers, and merges them with modern materials and manufacturing to create a symphonic display of design that celebrates tradition and is entirely new." i was unable to spend much time there this past weekend, but alex of restr/collective was nice enough to send me some pictures of their work in the exhibition.
in part 1 of the american dollhouse, redstr/collective explored two classic american design movements, art deco and federal. their collection explores what makes something inherently art deco or federal, and why it maintains a place in the visual memory. my favorite piece of theirs was the "strikes back" chandelier. "strikes back" takes the classic empire shape and transforms it into a gold crochet netting adorned with jet hemitite swarovski crystals. it's elegance is timeless and it's certainly a piece that is worth checking out. you can see american dollhouse on display at the future perfect in williamsburg brooklyn.
