The Sustainability Timeline, printed with low-VOC eco-friendly UV inks and printed on salvaged glass panels, is featured on the first floor of The Merchandise Mart. The timeline celebrates many of the accomplishments of The Merchandise Mart, our showroom partners and the City of Chicago. Addressing global environmental challenges, the display highlights the product innovations, research findings and events of the last several decades that reduce our environmental footprint and make the world a better place to live.
The Green Spot is located on the First Floor of The Merchandise Mart (Chicago).
The predominant raw material for the cement and aggregate in concrete is limestone, the most abundant mineral on earth. Our concrete products also contain approximately 30% recycled aggregate, fly ash, slag cement, and silica fume, all waste byproducts from power plants, steel mills, and other manufacturing facilities.
Our concrete raw materials supplier is only three miles from our production facility, so less energy is spent delivering these materials to our facility. Concrete can be produced in the small quantities needed for individual projects, reducing waste. Home Design Ideas and Alternative also uses a LEED compliant low-VOC sealer to coat and protect our concrete product surfaces. Concrete furnishings are durable and long lasting, but after it has served its original purpose, the concrete can be crushed and recycled into aggregate for use in new concrete projects, such as pavements, backfill, or…a new table.
