Seedy Thoughts
Do you like this story?
It's easy to have seedy thoughts in the deep of December and January in Chicago. Actually, I had them as early as November when I selected vegetable and flower seeds for my new Potager.
Last year I grew Patty Pan squash from seed and if anyone's familiar with squash they know it's one of the easiest veggies to grow. Swiss Chard was another that I planted in a container and used for adding to salads.

Here are my 2011 vegetable seed selections :
Fine Leaf Chives, Tricolor Bush Beans, Asian Salad Greens,Green and Red Romaines,Red Winter Kale, Dwarf Blue Curled Kale and Alaska Variegated nasturtium
This list is by no means complete. I will add leaf lettuce and Swiss Chard seeds. Our season is apparently not long enough for eggplant or for whatever reason it didn't bear . I've never grown tomatoes from seeds because I buy them from our garden center's greenhouse grower who comes up with some very unusual varieties.
Spring is getting closer. I noticed last night that it gets dark around 5 now. Soon I'll have to dig out that mini-greenhouse I bought on sale at the garden center last Fall and start sowing my seeds.
Last year we had an early April Spring and I'm hoping that it'll repeat this year.
