just saw this in dwell and had to pass it on- this thick felt laptop sleeve comes in grey or orange and provides a protective surface for your laptop. available in five sizes (all for macs, but i bet regular pcs would fit as well) for appx $82 (plus intl shipping), these handy little cases are a great way to avoid scratching surfaces or minor bumps and dents. more info and purchase options right here.
