Carolina Christmas Card

There are trees everywhere you look in Carolina and they make a snowfall even more beautiful .

By Chicago standards it wasn't even newsworthy, but it happened in North Carolina so it was a rare event.  A white Christmas.  Neighboring South Carolina had its first white Christmas ever and Georgia its first since 1881.

I went South seeking a little respite from Chicago's early cold winter and instead I got a little of the same.  I think it may have followed me .

My first Christmas away from home and my little grand daughter Lea and her Mom and Dad's first in their new home.   We had a wonderful Christmas dinner together and was snowbound for a few days.  Snowfalls can cause a lot of accidents and death due to black ice that forms on the roads during the freeze/thaw cycle.

We felt lucky as we watched the news of a horrendous blizzard with snow up to 30 inches in some places on the East Coast.  Stranded passengers heading to Boston, New York and other points East spent Christmas in the airport.

North Carolina is having an unusual cold spell and the weatherman always calls 40 "chilly ".  I never thought I'd think of 40 as warm but after spending many cold winters in Chicago I do now.  As we flew home we heard the forecast for Friday :   Chilly in the morning  ( 40 ) with a high of 65.  Sigh.  Unlike Chicago,  snow is but a fleeting memory .
