safety first

d*s reader, dana passed on this innovative jewelry designed to give women an extra line of defense against assualt and attackers. the "subtle safety" defensive ring is meant to be, "an expression of confidence". the description from the maker, redstart design, is as follows:

"Orange whistles are garish and weapons can easily be turned against you. The Subtle Safety ring is meant to act as a better solution to the recommended practice of a woman placing her keys between her fingers as she walks alone. When expanded over three fingers, the ring gives the wearer confidence on a dark walk home. [women] can now carry their keys and be ready to open the door to their home or car quickly and safely. With an open palm they are still effective fending off an attacker."
i think the ring is a really great idea. as a woman who walked home late nights from the art studio through my college's dark woods (the only path back from the art studio to my dorm), i often walked with my keys between my fingers in case of an attack (they were all too common on my campus). i think ideas like this are a perfect example of design used to create both a beautifu object and one that serves a (really great) purpose. more info right here [thanks so much, dana!]
