maya kini

persimmon

lovely d*s reader, dana passed on the work of sf-based designer maya kini via email this afternoon, and i'm so glad she did. kini's latest collection, called organix, combines organic matter with modern materials.

kini's organix collection takes paper-thin dehydrated fruit and vegetable slices and showcases them through resin in various forms of stainless steel jewelry. after gathering her organic samples (as diverse as daikon, starfruit, kumquat and persimmon) from local farmer's markets throughout the bay area, kini prepares each fruit and vegetable slice by expelling water from it during a week long process of pressing and drying. the interesting part is that her technique creates a unique organic composition for every piece, depending on how, when, and where the vegetable was grown. i just love the idea of wearing my fruits and veggies. you can find more information on kini and her work, right here. [thanks, dana!]
