umbra+
Do you like this story?

i've been intrigued by umbra's u+ line for awhile, so i thought i'd find some more information on it, and share some of their new products due out in the fall...
[from press materials] "In 1999, Umbra introduced U+, a small studio collection of distinctive home objects created to emphasize Umbra's identity and to build brand recognition. This year, as it celebrates 25 years of growth, globalization and recognition as a leader in design, Umbra introduces the 2005 U+ Studio Gift Collection, featuring over 45 new designs in an assortment of more materials and categories than ever before presented. As the description implies, this newest collection expresses Umbra's desire to create one of the premier gift lines in the industry. And, for this first time, under the direction of brand manager Philip Verhagen, the U+ features distinct style directions - Madison, Soho and Brooklyn - each with its own esthetic."
that's a lot to take in, but basically, u+ is introducing three new lines this year: madison (contemporary, classic umbra- ie: the magino stool i mentioned a while ago), soho (a line that reaches back in time to pay tribute to earlier style periods) and brooklyn (designs with "edgy" references to urbanized society). i've got pictures above and below of some of my new favorites, including the "remix" frame and clock series. they're hot pink, what can i say? i love me some pink. products will be available soon on umbra.com and in stores this fall. i'll be sure to update when the whole collection is out.
