nicholas furrow

cocoon

nicholas furrow is a greenpoint-based lighting designer whose work is shown at the future perfect, brooklyn flat and sublime american design. i'm quite fond of his earlier designs i've seen at the future perfect, and now he's introduced an equally beautiful line of lighting called the cocoon lamps- carried at brooklyn flat off lorimer street, the lights are made of polycarbonate and silicone. a single xenon bulb is fixed to a steel cable tensed across the center of the lamps while the silicone strands cling to the clear plastic body and provide a glistening affect. they're apparently quite striking in person.

red 30in

i'm a huge fan of furrow's red light district lighting, which is made from 1970's glass student-type lampshades, LED's and rubber feet. i just love the way the vintage glass lampshades are stacked and fused to make a bright red column.

alchemist lamps

if those two aren't your cup of tea, you can also check out his alchemist lamps made of cement, rubber, steel, and polycarbonate. for more information check out nicholas' website or the stores above. [thanks, nicholas!]
