to cover up the stench of tuesday's defeat....

ok, so i'm trying to be a little bit less depressed than yesterday, but you know, no one's perfect. however, i think posting some new design stuff will help get my mind off of the crushing defeat of tuesday's election. (must. not. think. about. bush.)

so, i got an email from franco over at luckyscent.com the other day, so i decided to check out his site- they carry designer fragrances and candles. now, i've never really been a frangrance or candle girl (despite the fact that both loom and anthropologie carry lovely examples of both) but i found something interesting on the site nonetheless. i've always been intrigued by the ability of design to permeate ANY medium, so it was no surprise to me that i fell in love with some of the packaging and bottle designs. so, i decided to do a bit on that....

comme des garcons stole the show in my opinion. their heavy, graphic 2x4-ish designs were right up my alley. if i could afford them i'd scoop them up just to look at them. they utilized shape, color and type to create really striking designs in such small packages. in addition to comme des garcon's tragically cool and rather stoic graphic designs, costes by hotel costes was pretty cool as well. it's from a parisian hotel, so you know, of course it's cool.

bottle designs by loree rodkin, yosh (who is the manager of the 826 valencia pirate store!!! see header picture) and some group called 'people of the labyrinths' were pretty hot too. (does that last one remind anyone else of david bowie and that creepy bounce the baby on the ceiling song? that movie was weeeird)

in the cute boho dept there were designs by sage that came with printed containers that screamed anna sui from two years ago...(speaking of ms. sui, she has some phenomenally cool package design as well...see below, please.)

that's as much fragrance talk as i can take for one day, hope you enjoy the detour into perfume world...will be back later today with more design thoughts...
