lou reed and little green men: the work of mosley meets wilcox
Do you like this story?
steve mosley and dominic wilcox sincerely apologize for all the trouble they've caused. well....at least their stamps do.
the british design duo of steve mosley and dominic wilcox (better known as mosley meets wilcox) have been described as "either slightly twisted or very creative" and manage to live up to both descriptions quite well. founded in 2000 and located in an ex-nightclub in east london, mosley meets wilcox embodies the rock and rock lifestyle that still haunts their studio.
after meeting at the royal college of art, steve and dominic set up shop and started churning out some truly cool designs. combining their backgrounds in product design and fine art/graphics, mosley and wilcox were poised to bring a fresh perspective to the design community they were about to inhabit. well, a fresh, slightly deviant perspective, that is.
with a portfolio full of melted plastic toy soldiers, table cloths decorated with cocaine (pictures of, not the real stuff...) and a series of plates and tables dedicated to the gods of glam rock and the kings of 80's cool, mosely and wilcox have established themselves as the go-to firm for edgy, rock-infused designs.
i found mosley meets wilcox at the future perfect some time ago, sucked in by the sheer cool-ness of their fruit bowls made of melted toy soldiers. i mean, what little kid didn't have a fascination with melting those poor helpless little guys? after further investigation, i found that these guys were just full of talent. i love the way that whimsy and humor find themselves into every piece of their work. artists that can produce interesting designs and still not take themselves too seriously are, sadly, few and far between.
the sort of wit and playfulness put into every mosley meets wilcox design is something to be envied- their work may not be for everyone, but it's certainly for me. go see for youself and let me know what you think! be sure to check out their newest collection (to be launched soon) with rock photographer mick rock- it's home to the infamous cocain table cloth. (which i personally find a bit much, but you know, it's not for everyone...)
have fun!
SO SORRY [sincerely apologise*mosley meets wilcox] i love this stamp. available in a few different sayings, it says what you can't.
JUST WAR? [war bowl*mosley meets wilcox] all iraq comments aside (just war my ass!), this is such a cool bowl. available in melted samurais too!
BOOGIE KNIGHTS [war bowl*mosley meets wilcox] this is the knights version. i love this photography.
SWEET JANE [lou reed table*mosley meets wilcox plus mick rock] eat your sandwich on lou reed's face. it's probably the closest you'll ever get to him. unless your name is grace, in which case you will see him several times, including in the audience at "monster"...
GLAM ROCK VASE [rock vases*mosley meets wilcox] wonder what ziggy would think of this...
STARDUST IN MY TEETH [david bowie plates*mosley meets wilcox] after you're done eating on lou reed's face, you can finish up with mr. stardust...
OH DUBYA [cocain table*mosley meets wilcox] ok maybe a bit much, well, yeah, definitely a bit much, but it was a chance to make another bush jab. hooray!
GLAM QUEEN [mirror*mosley meets wilcox] check out your rock and roll self in this rock queen mirror. that's a debbie harry table in the reflection...
